LAXATIVE TEA
SENNA LEAF FENNEL ANISE CORIANDER CARAWAY SEED LICORICE | EFFECTS INDICATIONS FOR USE SUGGESTED USE |
EXPLANATORY NOTES
This is a laxative formula, relying on the action of senna leaf on the colon; it promotes peristalsis. The digestion-promoting herbs fennel, anise, and licorice, improve the functions of the stomach and the secretion of bile (cholagogue); they also alleviate abdominal pain due to intestinal spasms. Coriander seed and caraway seed, two additional digestive aids, join the other digestive herbs to counteract any intestinal cramping that might result if the laxative herb were to be used alone. Thus, the formula enhances the activity of the entire digestive system, without being overly stimulating.
COMBINING
Persons suffering from significant digestive system problems may wish to use this tea along with Tea for Digestion, in which case Laxative Tea can be taken before meals and Tea for Digestion as an after-meal aid. The ingredients of these formulas overlap to a certain extent, but together they provide a greater range of digestion promoting activities.
CAUTIONS
If symptoms persist, see your doctor. Limit use during pregnancy to no more than two teabags each day. Women wanting to avoid estrogenic effects should limit their intake of this formula (not use it every day at full recommended dosage). Do not use this product if it causes diarrhea.
Senna Leaf Aperient: mild laxative; in high doses, it can be a strong laxative. Modern findings: the herb has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory actions, mainly due to its anthracene glycosides, commonly called senosides. |
